Plus size model Ashley Graham made headlines again after she concluded another successful photo shoot for Glamour Iceland. The plus-size model made another historical leap, as she stripped and posed buck naked with fellow plus-size models for the May issue of the magazine.
The issue, which hit news stands on May 8, features Graham along with fellow plus size ALDA models Marquita Pring, Julie Henderson, Inga Eiriksdottir and Danielle Redman. ALDA, an Icelandic term that means wave, is a coalition of models looking to promote the idea that beauty is not restricted to shapes or sizes.
The photo on the magazine, which featured all the models in the nude, had the mission of transforming how beauty is perceived in the modeling world.
Model Inga Eiriksdottir describes this recent campaign in detail below:
“We met secretly for a few months, came up with a business plan, and then met with all the major agencies in New York. Most of them had never represented models bigger then a U.S. size 6, so we didn’t know how they would react. It was amazing to see the great response we got.
After some negotiations, we decided to join IMG, as we felt they could help us have good influence in the business. They love what we stand for. It shouldn’t matter if you are a size 2 or 12. Every model should be represented equally.”
The inspirational skin-baring photos were made possible by photographer Silija Magg.
Graham gained worldwide recognition after being the first plus-size model to be featured on Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit campaign last year. It was then followed by a sexy swimsuit print ad that came with a video, which was published recently and was meant to counter Protein World’s banned ‘fat shaming’ swimsuit ad.
