The month of June is derived from the word Juno, the Roman goddess of weddings. Due to the popular belief that June weddings receive the most blessings, many couples choose to seal their union in this month. So if you happen to have your eyes set for a June wedding next year, then you might want to check out the Christian Siriano Bridal Collection for 2018. Not only will you get a wide selection of handmade gowns, but you will be thrilled to know that his designs go all the way to a size 26.

Christian Siriano Bridal Collection

Christian Siriano is a red carpet favorite for celebrities and media personalities alike. The 31-year-old designer gets a lot of attention for being an advocate for diversity in fashion. Throughout his career, Siriano has managed to take several strides in celebrating women of all shapes and sizes. Just last year, he collaborated with plus-size retailer Lane Bryant and saw to it that his runway show at New York Fashion Week included the most famous curve models in the industry. He was also noted for dressing SNL actress Leslie Jones for the red carpet after several designers turned her down. Siriano continues to live up to his word after unveiling his Spring 2018 bridal collection.

Plus-size women often find themselves excluded from the bridal fashion industry. Siriano is hoping to change all that by creating a collection that offers gowns between size 12 and 26. The newly released campaign images reveal a model who goes beyond the industry size (according to the designer’s team is a size 2) and another plus-size model who wears a size 16. In an interview with Mic.com, Siriano had this to say about his new line:

“I think it was just pretty easy, a no-brainer for us. It just made sense. I think it’s important that all the dresses, everything we’re offering, can come in any size. That’s an important thing.”

Siriano has always felt puzzled over why plus-size women are not used in advertising clothing, particularly bridal wear. It fails to coincide with the statistics that say the average American woman wears a size 12 and above. The Project Runway alumnus stated that designing the Christian Siriano Bridal Collection for women above the standard size is not as challenging as most designers think.

“I like to tell people that the process is different. There’s different challenges, but it’s not necessarily more difficult. The dresses in our collection, everything’s the same. We just work on where the darts go, what the fabric is. I think about that a lot more in the beginning of the process, thinking of what kind of fabrics could work on anyone.”

Kudos to Siriano for being a fresh air in this often close-minded industry! Hopefully, other designers will be inspired by his size-friendly collections and start following in his footsteps.
