Plus-size model Denise Bidot has one mission: to bring body-positivity to women everywhere. The fashion and beauty influencer has used both her modeling gigs and social media platforms to spread a message of self-love. Now Bidot is starring in the latest Target ad where she proudly shows off her cellulite and stretch marks in one of the most feel-good ads of the year.
Curve Model Denise Bidot Stars in Inspiring Target Ad
Bidot has been enjoying great success in the fashion industry. For instance, she became the first plus-size model to walk the runway for two straight size brands during the New York Fashion Week. In addition to modeling for Forever21, Levi’s, and Old Navy, Bidot has also done a number of television gigs including HBO’s Habla Women and the NUVO TV program Curvy Girls.
Bidot is kicking things up a notch by signing up to do another inclusive representation, specifically in the Target’s newest swimsuit ad. The image features the stunning 6-goot posing confidently in a sporty two-piece suit. The photos in the Target ad remain completely untouched as you can see all her stretch marks and cellulite. Bidot remains completely unfazed by her “imperfections” and continues to pose confidently in front of the camera.
The release of the Target ad isn’t the first time the company has taken great strides with body representation. In the past, they have made it a point to make sure that all body types are welcome to wear their clothing. For the 2016 swimsuit ad, the brand took the opportunity to have diverse and differently sized dolls to model their latest line. On another occasion, they became the first major brand to hire a male plus-size model for their catalog and Web site. Denise Bidot’s Target ad, however, will mark Target’s first time to feature stretch marks in an editorial shoot.
“I feel most confident in a two-piece suit with a high-waist bottom and a top that fits just right,” Bidot wrote in a statement posted on Target’s Web site. “When you’re a curvy girl, it can be hard to find a suit that fits perfectly in all the right places, but Target definitely has accomplished that with their swimwear. Once you find that perfect suit that fits just right, it will give you an extra boost of confidence that will make your pool or beach day even better.”
Creating a campaign with Denise Bidot was a strategic move for Target as her influence can easily reach fans far and wide. It was only made greater after they chose to capture her natural beauty in a completely un-airbrushed photoshoot. Aside from Bidot, Target has called on the likes of dancer Megan Batoon as well as skateboarder Lizzie Armanto. The brand promises that the Target ad won’t be the first nor the last thing they have in store for everyone, it’s only the beginning of another year filled with body-positive campaigns.
