What a great way to end 2017! It’s been an incredibly important year for strong and independent women everywhere, with great strides being made toward equality and inclusivity. But the good news keep coming, and this time, the spotlight is being placed on a plus-size babe.
Jess Miller is making headlines after she became the first-ever plus-size model to sign with The Lions Model Management. The three-year-old modeling agency represents internationally renowned supermodels such as Irina Shayk, Kate Upton, and Victoria’s Secret angel Stella Maxwell. Miller was signed after winning a national model search conducted by the agency in partnership with the retail brand Universal Standard.
The Lions Model Management Signs Plus-Size Model Jess Miller
Jess Miller was one of the four models who made it to the finals. The company opened the competition with a twelve-day nationwide search to find faces for the plus-size brand, which caters to women sizes 10 to 28.
“Growing up I was always interested in fashion and modeling, but making a career of it seemed out of reach since there weren’t many models working who I thought looked like me, so I naturally felt unwelcome,” Miller said in a statement released by The Lions. “I began to see modeling as a real opportunity for me, as the industry has evolved over the past few years, with more models who have nontraditional looks achieving great success.”
Julia Kisla, The Lions Model Management’s CEO and managing partner, stated that the decision to include Miller in their roster of models had little to do with her body type. Instead, they were instantly charmed by Miller’s beauty, style, and intelligence.
“At The Lions, we look beyond traditional factors, like measurements, so while Jess is the first ‘plus size’ model we’re adding to our roster, that detail didn’t influence our decision,” Kisla shared. “When we met Jess we immediately felt a spark and knew we had to sign her. She has all the attributes we look for in new talent—a striking look, unique personal style, intelligence, a strong work ethic, and a passion for championing inclusivity. We look forward to working with her to change the perception of what a model can and should be in today’s market.”
