Summer is still in full swing, but news about the highly anticipated fashion event New York Fashion Week is basically everywhere. One particular headline is standing out for all the great reasons. Premiere fashion brand Torrid, which is famous for providing stylish designs for women size 10 to 30, will be the first plus-size fashion brand to ever headline the NYFW.

Torrid made the official announcement on July 21. The brand is set to join a roster of 70 other shows that are all set to present their spring/summer 2018 collection. In line with the big news, Torrid will also host the semifinal competitive round of its annual Face of Torrid model search on the NYFW catwalk.

There are already a lot of details about Torrid’s much-awaited runway show, including its scheduled date of its NYFW debut, which is on September 12. Like other designers presenting at NYFW this year, Torrid is poised to showcase its spring 2018 collection, which includes up to 40 different looks that are inspired by “edgy rock n’ roll” and “romantic boho.”

The runway show will not only debut the brand’s upcoming designs, it will also be the semifinal round of Torrid’s model search competition. The third edition of Face of Torrid officially began casting last May and are currently accepting applicants until August 13. The winner will get a chance to be part of an all-star roster including Ashley Nell Tipton, Candice Huffine, and last year’s winner, Maria Gimenez

It was just last year when 27 plus-size models made history after strutting down the runway for a variety of designer brands like Michael Kors, Who What Wear, and Christian Siriano. Aside from Torrid, Canadian plus-size brand Addition Elle will also debut its collaboration with Instagram influencer Jordyn Woods through a catwalk presentation.

Through the years, NYFW has taken great strides to become more diverse. During spring/summer 2016, less than one percent of the models on the runway were plus-size, so this year Torrid’s show is going to be extra special and revolutionary at the same time. Though there is still a lot of work that needs to be a done in the industry, it certainly looks like things are going toward the right direction.
